New Jersey Devils Training Camp Cuts 2025

Newark, New Jersey — The New Jersey Devils made several roster moves on October 4, 2025, as they aim to finalize their lineup for the upcoming NHL season. The team has placed forwards Thomas Bordeleau, Angus Crookshank, Brian Halonen, and Zack MacEwen, along with defenseman Colton White, on waivers with plans to assign them to their AHL affiliate, Utica. Additionally, defenseman Dmitry Osipov has been sent to Utica.

This decision brings the Devils down to 45 players after a significant reduction of 16 cuts made earlier this week. The cuts reflect the team’s effort to shape their roster as they prepare for the regular season.

In related news on September 29, the Devils had already made a round of cuts during training camp, reducing their squad from 61 players to 45. Among those loaned to Utica were goalie Tyler Brennan, forward Josh Filmon, and several others. Meanwhile, forward Ryan Schmelzer was placed on waivers intending to be loaned to Utica, while several players including Tag Bertuzzi and Jeremy Brodeur were released from NHL camp.

On the other side of the Hudson River, the New York Rangers also announced roster cuts. Notably, Brennan Othmann was among those assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack, a move that came earlier than many expected. He struggled during training camp, failing to impress as some of his peers, like Gabe Perreault and Noah Laba, showcased stronger performances.

Joining Othmann in Hartford are Dylan Roobroeck, Bryce McConnel-Barker, Carey Terrance, Blake Hillman, Dylan Garand, and Talyn Boyko. Additionally, Brendan Brisson and Connor Mackey were placed on waivers, set to report to Hartford if they clear.

Despite showing promise, Othmann’s training camp performance left him as the odd man out. Other players, such as Garand, are gearing up for their roles as they prepare for the upcoming AHL season. The Rangers now have 27 players remaining on their roster as they look ahead to the season opener, scheduled for one week from today.
