Jacob Markstrom Injury Devils Vs Bruins Hockey

NEWARK, N.J. — New Jersey Devils starting goaltender Jacob Markstrom left Wednesday’s game against the Boston Bruins in the second period after a collision in the crease, raising concerns about his availability moving forward.

Markstrom, 34, appeared to injure his left leg when Bruins forward Justin Brazeau crashed into him early in the second period. The veteran netminder favored his leg as he gingerly skated off the ice and did not return to the game.

The Swedish goaltender has been a cornerstone of the Devils’ success this season, posting a .912 save percentage and a 2.20 goals-against average in 35 appearances prior to Wednesday’s game. New Jersey acquired Markstrom in an offseason trade with the Calgary Flames to address their longstanding need for stability in goal.

Veteran backup Jake Allen replaced Markstrom and is expected to take over starting duties if the injury sidelines Markstrom for an extended period. Allen has recorded an .897 save percentage and a 2.78 goals-against average in 14 games this season.

The Devils, currently in the thick of the playoff race, will closely monitor Markstrom’s condition. His absence could significantly impact the team’s defensive performance and postseason aspirations.
