Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Praised as Beloved Manager Ahead of Playoffs
LOS ANGELES, California — In his 10th season managing the Los Angeles Dodgers, Dave Roberts continues to earn recognition as one of the most respected and loved figures in Major League Baseball.
“I don’t have enough good words to say about Doc,” said Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy. “He’s been a mentor. He’s been a coach. He’s been tough on me. He’s also loved me. That’s something that I’ve never questioned.”
Roberts’ strong leadership was highlighted during a tumultuous game against the San Diego Padres in June when a brawl broke out. His involvement earned him a one-game suspension, underscoring his commitment to protect his players. “I feel like he protects players better than anybody,” Muncy commented.
Despite being tough on players, Roberts maintains a supportive approach. “He holds me to a high standard,” Muncy noted. “But he understands where I come from.” The Dodgers are currently gearing up for their 10th consecutive postseason, aiming to replicate their success as defending World Series champions.
The team enters the postseason with a strong starting rotation but faces challenges with a struggling bullpen. Roberts is set to make crucial decisions as the Dodgers aim for another championship run.
In the upcoming Division Series, pitcher Roki Sasaki has emerged as an option for the bullpen after stellar performances late in the regular season. Entering the playoffs, Roberts emphasized trust in Sasaki and others in the rotation.
As the Dodgers prepare for their first postseason game, Roberts expects each player to rise to the occasion and contribute to the team’s success.
