Donald Trump Proposes Free IVF Treatment in Presidential Campaign
Former President and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced at a rally in Michigan that he aims to make in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment free for women if he wins the presidential election.
Trump stated, “Under the Trump administration, your government will pay for — or your insurance company will be mandated to pay for — all costs associated with IVF treatment.” He emphasized the importance of supporting families and increasing the number of births in the United States.
The proposed policy has gained attention as many women face significant financial burdens associated with IVF, which can cost tens of thousands of dollars per round and often requires multiple attempts for success.
During the rally, Trump characterized IVF as an essential service that benefits women, men, and families. He added, “Some have great difficulty… a lot of them have been very happy with the results [of IVF].”
This initiative aligns with Trump’s efforts to present himself as moderate on reproductive rights, especially following the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade, a decision that has generated considerable backlash.
The Harris-Walz campaign criticized Trump, arguing that his administration’s policies have effectively put IVF at risk nationwide. They pointed to the ruling by the Alabama Supreme Court, which recognized embryos as children under state law, creating uncertainty for IVF clinics in the state.
Trump has emphasized his commitment to supporting families, asserting that more children are needed in the country. His proposal comes amid a heightened focus on reproductive issues, as Democrats aim to legislate IVF as a statutory right.
Trump also took credit for the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, indicating that he believes this was a long-standing wish of many Americans to return such issues to the states.
