Minnesota, USA — Timberwolves guard Donte DiVincenzo returned to the game against the Charlotte Hornets after an injury scare on Saturday night. DiVincenzo left the court during the first half after taking an elbow to the face, but he was able to return and help his team secure a 122-105 victory.
Fans took to social media with their concerns and reactions after DiVincenzo’s injury. Many were worried about his well-being after the hit, while others made light of the situation. One user, Dana Moore, tweeted, “Donte DiVincenzo just checked back into the game.”
Another user from Matchup Brasil tweeted in Portuguese about DiVincenzo’s nose, commenting, “It’s all good with Donte DiVincenzo’s nose after getting hit today.” Others even joked about his return and the state of his nose. A tweet from Brenda joked, “divincenzo going as j.j. watt for halloween with that very broken nose.”
The injury occurred early in the second quarter when DiVincenzo took an accidental elbow from Collin Sexton. Despite the discomfort, he managed to finish the game with 18 points, three rebounds, four assists, and one steal in just over 31 minutes of play. He shot 6-of-14 from the field, including 5-of-12 from three-point range.
With Mike Conley moving to the bench earlier in the season, DiVincenzo has taken over the starting point guard role. However, Conley has returned to the starting lineup since then. Before Saturday’s game, DiVincenzo had played in all five games of the Timberwolves’ season, averaging 12.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.
DiVincenzo, who was selected 17th overall in the 2018 NBA Draft, is now in his eighth season in the league and his second full season with the Timberwolves. Minnesota acquired him in a trade that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks before the start of the 2024-25 season.
