Draper and Machac Triumph in Doubles at Monte-Carlo Masters

MONTE-CARLO, Monaco — Jack Draper and Tomas Machac advanced in doubles at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters on April 7, 2025, with a hard-fought 6-3, 7-6(4) victory over their opponents. The duo showed strong chemistry and resilience, having recently partnered during the Indian Wells tournament last month.
Both players faced challenges in their first-round match but managed to save two set points in the second set, ultimately securing their win in 81 minutes. Draper, who is currently ranked No. 6 in the PIF ATP Rankings, remarked, “Every match helps us to understand each other’s games better. It’s great to get that first win under our belts.”
The pair now prepares to face fifth seeds Marcelo Granollers and his partner in the second round, aiming to continue their successful run in Monte-Carlo.
In addition to Draper and Machac’s performance, Alex de Minaur and Jan-Lennard Struff teamed up for a notable first-round win, defeating another duo 5-7, 7-5, 10-5. Struff highlighted their strong serving strategy, noting they won 87 percent of their first-serve points according to Infosys ATP Stats. “We worked well together today, and I feel we have more to give,” he said.
They will next compete against Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni, both of whom reached the second round after overcoming their opponents with a scoreline of 7-6(5), 6-1. The doubles matches at the tournament have showcased significant talent and competitiveness overall.
On the singles side of the event, Grigor Dimitrov continued his resurgence on clay courts, advancing past Nicolas Jarry 6-3, 6-4. The 15th-seeded Bulgarian faced a tense finish, needing seven match points to lock in his victory. “It took me a bit to find my groove on clay, but I’m happy with how I performed today,” Dimitrov said.
Looking ahead, Dimitrov will meet local wild card Vacherot in the second round, which promises to bring excitement as the tournament progresses. The Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters has attracted top-level talent, creating a compelling atmosphere for both players and fans alike.
