Brandon Flagg Basketball Training Usa Team

Las Vegas, Nevada — Seventeen-year-old Brandon Flagg arrived at UNLV’s Mendenhall Center for a scrimmage with Team USA‘s select squad, capturing the attention of NBA legends preparing for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Flagg, who is widely recognized as the most anticipated American high school basketball prospect, made waves even before his debut with Duke. While he had yet to play a single game for the Blue Devils, players like LeBron James already knew his name. It has been over a decade since an amateur player was invited to train with the USA team.

This scrimmage was a significant test for Flagg, putting him face-to-face with seasoned All-Stars. Despite the pressure, Flagg showed no signs of intimidation. “Zero nerves,” said LeBron James, recalling Flagg’s standout performance. “He went out and balled.”

Back in Las Vegas for pre-season preparations with the Dallas Mavericks, Flagg’s memorable moment came during his time with the Team USA select team, where he displayed a unique ability to impact the game. A few months later, the Mavericks selected Flagg with the No. 1 pick in the 2025 draft.

At Team USA camp, Flagg led a comeback against the Olympic team, demonstrating skill far beyond his years, and solidifying his status as the presumed top pick. His subsequent season at Duke further established his talent, earning national player of the year honors and contributing significantly to the Blue Devils’ ACC title.

Currently, Flagg’s rookie season with the Mavericks brings high expectations. “I knew I belonged,” Flagg told ESPN. Mavs coach Jason Kidd sees great potential in Flagg’s game, drawing comparisons to basketball great Grant Hill for Flagg’s unselfish play and defensive dedication.

Flagg’s debut in the Las Vegas Summer League had mixed outcomes. He struggled in his first game but later showcased his value during a critical play against the Lakers, illustrating his versatility. Kidd started Flagg at point guard during the preseason, a role he is eager to explore.

Flagg’s performances have not only impressed his teammates but have also drawn praise from coaches. Team USA select coach Jamahl Mosley was particularly impressed by Flagg’s communication and willingness to learn. “He wasn’t afraid of the moment,” Mosley said.

As Flagg prepares for the upcoming NBA season, he aims to prove he is ready to contribute and help the Mavericks contend for a championship.
