The No. 8 Duke men’s basketball team delivered a dominant performance on the road against Miami, securing an 82-56 victory in a showcase of skill and teamwork.

Miami faced challenges with key players missing as Nigel Pack and Matthew Cleveland were sidelined due to injury and illness, respectively. The absence of Kyshawn George further hindered Miami’s depth, creating an uphill battle against the visiting Blue Devils.

Early in the second half, Jay Bilas likened Duke’s performance to the movie “Pleasantville,” as they seemed to effortlessly control the game in all aspects, building a commanding lead.

Journeyman guard, Jeremy Roach, showcased his range by hitting four out of six three-point attempts, finishing with 16 points overall. Freshman standout Jared McCain, while not replicating his previous explosive performance, contributed seven points to the winning effort.

Mark Mitchell continued to impress with his versatility, tallying 10 points and grabbing four rebounds. Kyle Filipowski displayed his skills with a highlight-worthy spin move leading to a reverse dunk, enlivening the Duke fans in attendance.

Returning from injury, Tyrese Proctor made a solid impact with three points, four assists, and a steal, proving his worth on both ends of the court. Freshmen Caleb Foster and Sean Stewart showcased their potential, displaying maturity beyond their years in a high-stakes road game.

Ryan Young‘s defensive prowess was highlighted by a crucial play, disrupting a four-on-none fast break with a heads-up defensive play. His overall contribution, along with Filipowski’s inside presence, stifled Miami’s offense and fueled Duke’s momentum.

Despite Miami’s efforts, they struggled significantly as Omier was limited to just 3-of-14 shooting, epitomizing their offensive struggles throughout the game. Head coach Jim Larranaga tried various strategies, but the undermanned Miami squad couldn’t match Duke’s firepower.

Duke’s defensive tenacity was a key factor in the victory, holding Miami to just 31.1% shooting from the field and 24% from beyond the arc. The Blue Devils’ well-rounded performance sets the stage for a challenging upcoming matchup against Wake Forest.
