PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Philadelphia Eagles are celebrating their Super Bowl victory with a grand parade scheduled for Friday, February 14, starting at 11 a.m. The parade will mark the team’s triumph over the Kansas City Chiefs, where they claimed the Lombardi Trophy with a decisive 40-22 victory in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans on February 11.
Mayor Parker announced the festivities during a press conference, exclaiming, “We did it, y’all!” after reflecting on the Eagles’ early struggle this season, which began with a 2-2 record. Parker recalled how the team rallied and fought back to secure the championship. “I committed a cardinal sin, and your mayor had a little slip-up,” Parker added humorously, referring to her previous misspelling of the Eagles’ chant. “It’s N-F-L C-H-A-M-P-I-O-N-S.”
The parade will kick off from Broad and Pattison avenues, proceeding north on Broad Street towards City Hall before heading to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, with a formal program beginning at 1 p.m. Ceremonial speeches, expected to conclude by 3 p.m., will be a highlight of the event.
To enhance the experience for spectators, 15 jumbotrons will be placed along the parade route, providing fans with continuous views of the celebrations, including a replay of Super Bowl LIX.
In terms of accessibility, the city has announced that American Sign Language (ASL) translators will be present on stage during speeches. A designated wheelchair accessible area will be located on the south side of Eakins Oval, although space is limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Paratransit drop-off locations will be available at 2300 Pennsylvania Ave. and at 20th and Spring Garden streets.
With an anticipated attendance of over one million people, local and state officials are implementing extensive public safety and transportation measures. Road closures will begin as early as Tuesday, with a significant number of streets around the parade route expected to close by Friday morning. Traffic restrictions will remain in place until 6 p.m. that day, with further details on specific road closures available to the public.
Public transportation will also see major changes, as SEPTA will run a special schedule with trains operating every 6-8 minutes beginning at 5 a.m. on parade day. Limited stations may be closed to manage the influx of passengers. In a gesture of appreciation, rides on SEPTA’s Broad Street and Market-Frankford lines will be free, sponsored by Philly native Kevin Hart‘s tequila brand, Gran Coramino.
As always, city officials are emphasizing safety through public communication. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel stated that law enforcement will be out in full force and cautioned fans to avoid any disruptive behavior. “Let’s not mar this special day with negative actions,” he urged.
The parade comes two years after a tragic incident following the Eagles’ first Super Bowl win in 2018, when a young fan lost his life during celebrations. Mayor Parker and Philadelphia officials have reiterated the importance of responsible celebrations, urging attendees to remain safe.
In anticipation of the cold weather expected on Friday, fans are advised to dress warmly, with temperatures projected in the low 30s and windy conditions. The city encourages everyone to stay hydrated and to be mindful of their belongings, especially in crowded spaces.
For those unable to attend, WHYY.org will be livestreaming the event for all fans to experience the festivities from the comfort of their homes.
