Eddie Murphy Reveals Plans for ‘Shrek 5’ and Donkey Spinoff Movie
Eddie Murphy has excited fans with unexpected news regarding the beloved ‘Shrek’ franchise and its lovable characters. The actor recently disclosed his involvement in ‘Shrek 5,’ the highly-anticipated sequel to 2010’s ‘Shrek Forever After,’ and hinted at a standalone movie centered around the wise-cracking Donkey.
Murphy’s revelation came during an interview with Collider, where he shared details about ‘Shrek 5’ production. He mentioned having already recorded the first act of the film and indicated that the project is set to be completed this year, with a potential release in 2025. Additionally, he revealed plans for a Donkey spinoff movie, suggesting that work on that project would follow his involvement in ‘Shrek 5.’
During the interview, Murphy expressed enthusiasm for the idea of exploring the character of Donkey further, pointing out the success of the ‘Puss in Boots’ movies as inspiration. He emphasized the comedic potential of Donkey, stating that the character’s humor surpasses even that of Puss in Boots, despite his fondness for the cat character.
The ‘Shrek’ franchise, originated by DreamWorks Animation, kicked off in 2001 with the release of the first film, featuring Mike Myers as the titular ogre and Cameron Diaz as Fiona. Subsequent installments, including ‘Shrek 2’ and ‘Shrek Forever After,’ have cemented the series as a fan-favorite over the years.
In addition to the main film series, ‘Shrek’ has expanded to include holiday specials such as ‘Shrek the Halls’ and ‘Scared Shrekless,’ along with the animated series ‘The Adventures of Puss in Boots,’ which originally premiered on Netflix and later migrated to Peacock.
Aside from his involvement in the ‘Shrek’ universe, Murphy is gearing up for another anticipated sequel, ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F,’ the fourth installment in the popular comedy franchise that first hit screens in 1987. The upcoming film is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on July 3, adding to Murphy’s list of iconic performances and contributions to the entertainment industry.
