Popular singer Engelbert Humperdinck surprised fans during an appearance on Good Morning Britain when he revealed his real age. The Leicester-born artist, known for hits like ‘Release Me’ and ‘Spanish Eyes’, is set to embark on a new world tour, with shows scheduled in Australia and Kuala Lumpur before returning to the UK.
Dressed in a classy black pinstripe suit jacket and boasting a glowing tan, the 87-year-old superstar impressed viewers who praised his youthful appearance. Many took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to appreciate his vitality and commend his continuing touring efforts despite his age.
In addition to discussing his new tour, Engelbert also spoke about his friendship with the legendary Elvis Presley and his collaboration with Eurovision singer Emin. He humorously remarked that Elvis had copied his famous sideburns, quipping, ‘I was the first’.
Last year, Engelbert faced health issues that led to the cancellation of some of his shows. However, he reassured fans during the Good Morning Britain interview that he was now recovering well and looking forward to resuming his tour in Birmingham. Known for his tireless work ethic, Engelbert has had a remarkable career spanning almost five decades, resulting in 35 platinum albums and 64 gold.
An interesting highlight of Engelbert’s career is that he has not only performed for Queen Elizabeth four times, but has also entertained numerous US presidents and heads of state worldwide. When asked about the possibility of being knighted, the singer replied that while he has not received that honor yet, he is content with his MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) distinction. However, he did express his delight at the idea of being recognized as a knight of the realm.
