F1 Enhances Viewer Experience with New Streaming Tier for 2025 Season

London, England – Formula One (F1) is gearing up for its 75th year of racing in 2025 with a groundbreaking innovation in fan engagement. In collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS), F1 has launched a new streaming subscription tier called F1 TV Premium, designed to enhance the viewer experience with rich data access, high-definition video, and customized viewing options.
F1 TV Premium subscribers will enjoy live and international coverage of races in ultra-high-definition (UHD) HDR, as well as onboard camera views in high-definition (HD) HDR. The service supports multi-view for various devices, allowing fans to indulge in a personalized race-watching experience. F1 aims to revolutionize how races are experienced by leveraging client-side technology that empowers viewers to create their own customized feed layouts.
“The goal was to ensure our fans have an engaging and flexible way to watch the races,” said F1’s head of technology. “We wanted to provide server-side synchronization for feeds so that fans can enjoy the action without interruptions, regardless of the device they use.”
F1 TV Premium allows access to 24 separate feeds including the main race broadcast, track feeds, and onboard cameras from all 20 cars. To keep the feeds synchronized, F1 ensures that all video feeds leave the Media and Technology Centre with aligned timecodes, even though they may take different paths through production.
The seamless integration of AWS Media Services in F1’s video workflow plays a key role in maintaining this synchronization. Epoch locking, embedded timecodes, and Common Media Application Format (CMAF) Ingest ensure that videos arrive at the viewer with consistent timing.
Viewers will be able to choose varying layouts tailored to different scenarios, such as following driver battles or optimizing views for mobile devices. The use of High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) and tile encoding allows for this customization without sacrificing video quality.
The collaboration between F1 and AWS exemplifies how advanced media services can reshape how fans experience live sports. The new offerings set a high standard for racing and entertainment, ensuring fans don’t miss a moment of the action.
