Erika Kirk Reflects on Emotional Moments After Charlie’s Murder
NEW YORK, NY — Erika Kirk gave her first television interview since the murder of her husband, Charlie Kirk, on ‘Jesse Watters Primetime’ Wednesday. The emotional episode aired at 8 p.m. ET.
Reflecting on the moments after her husband was shot, she described seeing him in the hospital. ‘He had this smirk on his face. That smirk to me is that look of “you thought you could stop what I’ve built,”’ Erika recounted, holding back tears. This interview comes nearly two months after Charlie was fatally shot on September 10 during an event at Utah Valley University.
Erika detailed her husband’s final moments, mentioning how he was responding to a student’s question about gun violence when he was shot in the neck. Following the incident, Charlie was transported to the hospital but did not survive. President Donald Trump later confirmed his passing, calling Charlie a beloved figure among youth.
During the interview, Erika also addressed her family’s life after the tragedy. ‘I tell my daughter that daddy is with Jesus,’ she said. ‘She keeps asking where he is but I remind her he’s always looking over us.’
The widow shared her determination to remain fearless, stating, ‘Charlie wasn’t afraid. We never lived in fear. If we did, we wouldn’t get anything done.’
On Thursday, Erika will receive the inaugural Charlie Kirk Legacy Award at the Fox Nation Patriot Awards in Brookville, New York.
Erika and Charlie met in 2018 and shared many special moments, including their wedding in May 2021. They were known for their strong bond, often emphasizing their Christian faith in their relationship.
Following Charlie’s death, Erika took over as CEO and board chair of Turning Point USA, an organization he co-founded. In her public remarks, she reiterated his commitment to faith and courage, staying true to the legacy he left behind.
As the interview concluded, Erika passionately reminded viewers of Charlie’s dedication to his work and family, stating, ‘He loved his children and his mission deeply.’
