New Orleans, Louisiana — Erin Andrews, the lead sideline reporter for NFL on Fox, offered heartfelt support to Travis Kelce following the Kansas City Chiefs‘ disappointing 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. Andrews, who cohosts the podcast “Calm Down” with Charissa Thompson, reflected on her emotional encounter with Kelce after the game, highlighting the personal bonds formed in professional sports.
During a recent podcast episode, Andrews expressed her dismay over Taylor Swift being booed at the game, stating, ‘I feel bad for the most famous, amazing woman in the world, who f*cking gets booed at the Super Bowl. Get out of here. She handled it so well.’
Kelce, a standout tight end known for his on-field prowess, was visibly upset following the loss. Andrews recounted an impromptu moment she shared with him as he exited the locker room. ‘I didn’t want to bug him, but I just turned around and walked up to him because I was like, ‘No, that’s our friend, and this really sucks,’ said Andrews.
She continued, ‘I gave him a big hug and said, ‘I’m so sorry, I love you. I’m so sorry.’ They’re humans, too. This just in, you know.’
Despite the criticism she might face for showing empathy toward an athlete, Andrews emphasized the importance of personal relationships within sports journalism. On a night overshadowed by jeers directed at Swift, she prioritized her friendship with Kelce over any potential backlash.
Andrews underscored her long-standing friendship with Kelce and her admiration for Swift. In a previous interview, she voiced her hope for the couple to consider marriage, saying, ‘I would like a marriage. Man, they’re great. I love them so much. I think they are so cute, and I love how they support each other.’
This closeness between Andrews and Kelce has often drawn attention, especially after the podcast cohosts jokingly claimed responsibility for their relationship during an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in 2023.
As Andrews continues to navigate her role as both a reporter and a friend, her comments reflect a more human side of sports, where empathy can coexist with professional duties.
