76ers Fined $100,000 for Injury Report Violation Involving Joel Embiid
NEW YORK – The Philadelphia 76ers have been fined $100,000 by the NBA for violating league rules on injury reporting, the league announced on Wednesday. The fine comes after the 76ers failed to accurately disclose the availability of star center Joel Embiid before their game against the Atlanta Hawks on November 30.
Initially, Embiid was listed as “out” on the injury report but played 30 minutes in the game, scoring 18 points in a 142-134 overtime loss. The fine reflects the 76ers’ prior history of similar violations.
Embiid had missed the previous nine games due to right knee soreness before making his return against the Hawks. He also did not play in the following game on December 2 for injury management purposes. His performance in the Hawks game marked his first game in three weeks.
The league pointed out that this is not the first time the 76ers faced consequences for injury reporting violations. In October 2024, they were fined $100,000 for misrepresenting Embiid’s injury status before a game against the Denver Nuggets.
Embiid commented on his return, saying, “When you miss a month… it feels like the first game of the season. I’m just happy I got to play the game of basketball.” Despite Embiid’s return, the 76ers, currently 11-9, have struggled with injuries this season, limiting his participation to just seven games thus far.
