Every Child Matters March Maniwaki

The community of Maniwaki hosted the Every Child Matters march yesterday, aiming to honor children who never returned from residential schools, as well as the survivors and their families. This poignant event started at the Centre d’amitié autochtone de Maniwaki.

Participants, including students from Cité Étudiante de la Haute-Gatineau, proceeded through the city, reaching Parc du Draveur before heading back to their starting point. David Logue, the General Manager of Caisse populaire Desjardins de la Haute-Gatineau, expressed satisfaction with the exceptional weather that facilitated the event.

Francine Fortin, the Mayor of Maniwaki, emphasized the significance of the event, underscoring its role in community healing and awareness. “This march is crucial in acknowledging the dark history of residential schools and promoting reconciliation,” she stated.

Sophie Chatel, Member of Parliament for Pontiac, was among those present, showing her support for the cause. The event’s organizers were pleased to witness growing participation and engagement from the public, enhancing the march’s impact each year.
