Girls High School Flag Football

The Indianapolis Colts announced the expansion of the Girls High School Flag Football League for the year 2024. Originally created in 2023 with eight high school teams from Indianapolis and South Bend, the league will now include 27 teams organized into five divisions across Indiana.

The season will commence with a three-week regular schedule starting on August 24 for the Indy 1 Division. The remaining divisions will begin their games on September 7.

Kalen Jackson, Vice Chair and Owner of the Colts, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative. “Everyone should have a chance to take part in our great sport, so we’re pleased to open the game of flag football to high school girls in Indiana for the second year,” Jackson stated. She highlighted the growth of girls’ flag football globally and the goal of establishing it as a sanctioned high school sport in Indiana.

The schedule for matches at Ben Davis High School includes exciting matchups such as Pike against Ben Davis and Lawrence Central versus Warren Central. Gates will open at 9:30 a.m. with matches scheduled throughout the day.

The league’s additional divisions are set to feature schools such as Arsenal Technical, Crispus Attucks, and North Side, among others. Competition is expected to be competitive as teams vie for recognition in this newer athletic opportunity for female students.

The Colts are committed to promoting flag football to encourage participation among aspiring female athletes. The initiative aims to provide avenues for girls who traditionally have not had equal opportunities to engage in the sport.
