Cooper Flagg Nba Draft

DALLAS, Texas – The 2025 NBA Draft kicked off on Wednesday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, where the Dallas Mavericks chose Cooper Flagg from Duke with the first overall pick.

Flagg expressed joy upon hearing his name called. “I’m feeling amazing. It’s a dream come true, to be honest,” he said as he celebrated with family. Dallas won the draft lottery with just a 1.8% chance, positioning them to seize the highly touted prospect.

The Mavericks, who previously shocked fans by trading away star Luka Doncic, hope that Flagg can help revitalize the franchise amidst ongoing concerns. Flagg averaged 19.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in a stellar season at Duke, leading them to a 35-4 record and a Final Four berth.

Dallas general manager Nico Harrison faced significant scrutiny after the Doncic trade. Adding Flagg could potentially assuage fan concerns, as he is expected to contribute immediately due to the Mavericks’ goal of contending in the Western Conference.

He remarked, “I think I keep saying I’m excited to be a sponge, to get down there and just learn, be surrounded by Hall of Fame-caliber guys.” Flagg aims to integrate quickly into a team that boasts a strong lineup, including 10-time All-Star players.

The excitement in the air was palpable as additional selections rolled in. The San Antonio Spurs selected point guard VJ Edgecombe from Rutgers with the second pick, followed by the Philadelphia 76ers choosing Baylor standout.

As the draft continued, teams looked to bolster their rosters with promising talent. Each pick holds the potential to shape the future of their franchises in a league rich with competition.
