Florida State Football Game Recap

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida State University lost 20-13 to Stanford in a thrilling ACC matchup that ended in dramatic fashion on Saturday night.

With just under a minute remaining, FSU quarterback Tommy Castellanos drove down the field, looking to tie the game. However, he was injured after taking a late hit while sliding. Medical staff immediately attended to him, and he managed to leave the field on his own.

Castellanos completed 15 of 29 passes for 251 yards before his exit, but he did not throw any touchdowns or interceptions. His crushing injury forced freshman Kevin Sperry to step in for the final moments of the game, tasked with leading an incredible comeback.

On that pivotal play, the officiating crew called targeting on a Stanford player, which resulted in his ejection after a review confirmed the call. FSU narrowly missed a chance to score a last-minute touchdown, failing on a shovel pass after a review showed they were short of the goal line.

Throughout the game, FSU outgained Stanford, accumulating 444 total yards compared to Stanford’s 293. However, Florida State struggled with penalties, committing 13 for a total of 79 yards.

Sperry connected on a crucial 53-yard pass to Micahi Danzy with just seconds left, giving FSU a glimmer of hope. Despite their efforts, FSU walked away with a disappointing record of 3-4 overall, and all four losses were in conference play.

FSU head coach Mike Norvell will likely face increased scrutiny following this defeat. After starting the season strong, the Seminoles have now lost four consecutive games, marking a significant downward spiral after a promising start.

The Seminoles will have a bye week to regroup before facing their next opponent on November 1 at Doak Campbell Stadium, hoping to return to their winning ways.
