Florida Gators Softball Team Sec Tournament

Gainesville, FL — The Florida Gators softball team concluded its SEC Tournament run with a 6-3 loss in extra innings against Ole Miss on May 7, 2025. The team fought back from a 3-1 deficit, tying the game in the seventh inning with back-to-back solo home runs from Jocelyn Erickson and Taylor Shumaker.

Despite the thrilling comeback, Ole Miss responded promptly, clinching the win with a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning. Ava Brown took the loss on the mound for the Gators, while Taylor Shumaker highlighted her performance with three hits, including her 18th home run of the season.

Coach Tim Walton emphasized the importance of learning from this experience as the team shifts focus to the upcoming NCAA Tournament. “We showed resilience today, and that can be a valuable asset as we prepare for the postseason,” Walton said. “We need to build on this momentum and perform better in critical situations.”

Even though the Gators exited the tournament earlier than hoped, their determination in challenging moments offers a promising outlook as they gear up for the next competition.
