Former Bosasa Coo Angelo Agrizzi Declared Fit To Stand Trial In Corruption Cases

A recent report from the Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital has established that former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi is deemed fit to proceed with his trials in two corruption cases. These cases involve alleged irregularities surrounding tenders awarded to Bosasa and a matter implicating Agrizzi and former African National Congress MP Vincent Smith.

Agrizzi was referred for observation at the psychiatric facility in 2023, and the subsequent report confirms his ability to actively participate in his defense. The first case revolves around over R1.8 billion worth of contracts awarded to Bosasa between 2004 and 2007, while the second implicates Agrizzi in alleged kickback schemes with Vincent Smith.

Initially, the corruption charges involving Smith were being adjudicated at the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Palm Ridge. However, these proceedings have been moved to the High Court in Pretoria, where the latest report on Agrizzi was presented on Thursday.

The inquiry conducted in 2023 revealed details of Agrizzi’s health complications, including a reported brain injury. Despite these challenges, the recent psychiatric evaluation asserts that Agrizzi possesses the capacity to comprehend court proceedings effectively.

Both cases against Angelo Agrizzi have now been consolidated and adjourned until the 26th of April. While Agrizzi was previously named alongside other accused individuals, these co-defendants have since had their cases separated from his.
