Former Montreal Canadiens’ defenseman, Shea Weber, is set to be one of the seven new members inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

Weber will be joined by Pavel Datsyuk, Jeremy Roenick, Natalie Darwitz, and Krissy Wendell-Pohl, alongside Colin Campbell and David Poile as builders, during the induction ceremony on November 11th.

Weber, who enters the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility, played a total of 1038 games over his career with the Nashville Predators and the Canadiens between 2005 and 2021. He scored 224 goals and tallied 589 points. Although he never lifted the Stanley Cup, he boasts two Olympic gold medals from 2010 and 2014.

Additionally, Weber clinched the Memorial Cup in 2004 with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League.

Expressing his gratitude for the honor, Weber commented during a teleconference, saying, “I want to say thank you to everyone in the selection committee. I am at a loss for words; I am still in shock. I can’t believe it. I can never thank enough all those who helped me play in the National Hockey League (NHL).”

Weber reflected on his final moments with the Canadiens, noting that his last game was the fifth match of the Stanley Cup Final on July 7, 2021, where the Tampa Bay Lightning emerged as champions. He expressed his fondness for his time in Montreal, where his children grew up and attended school.

“I had a great career. I wish it could have been longer, but your body tells you when it’s time to stop. It was a tough decision. Mentally, I felt like I could still compete, but physically, I had nothing left to give,” Weber explained.
