Former Covington Standout Joe Graves Represents North Shore in Super Bowl LVIII
Covington, Louisiana will have a representative on the field in Super Bowl LVIII as Joe Graves, a former standout offensive lineman and Covington native, serves as the assistant offensive line coach for the San Francisco 49ers.
Graves, 30, is currently in his second season with the 49ers after previously coaching at Georgia Southern and playing for Southeastern Louisiana University.
During his college career, Graves was a three-year starter and received All-Southland Conference honors in multiple seasons. He played a crucial role in helping Southeastern win back-to-back conference titles in 2013 and 2014.
After graduating in 2016, Graves began his coaching career at Southeastern as the running backs coach for two seasons. He then moved on to the University of Louisiana-Monroe before joining the NFL in 2022.
In his first season with the 49ers, Graves contributed to an impressive offensive line performance. The team went five games without allowing a sack, matching a record set in previous seasons. The 49ers’ offense also ranked fourth in the NFL, averaging 5.94 yards per play.
Graves is just one of several Louisiana connections in this year’s Super Bowl. Other players with Louisiana ties include Elijah Mitchell from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, Clyde Edwards-Helaire from LSU, Neil Farrell from LSU, Justin Reid from Stanford, and L’Jarius Sneed from Louisiana Tech.
