Former Lyon Striker Lisandro López Celebrates Birthday with Fond Memories from Stint in France
Former Lyon forward Lisandro López marked his birthday with fond recollections of his time in France, leaving a lasting impact at the club despite his relatively short spell compared to some of his esteemed teammates.
Hailing from Rafael Obligado, López rose to prominence at Racing Club in Buenos Aires, where his lethal partnership with Diego Millito led to him clinching the top scorer title in the 2004 Apertura. His impressive form earned him a senior national team call-up in March 2005, propelling him towards a move to Porto alongside fellow Argentine Lucho González later that year.
The dynamic duo thrived at Porto, securing league triumphs in all their four seasons before venturing to Lyon in 2009 to embark on a new challenge.
López made an instant impact with the Ligue 1 outfit, notably guiding them to the Champions League semifinals in his debut season, highlighted by a historic Round of 16 victory over Real Madrid. His prolific scoring touch saw him notching 24 goals across all competitions, earning him the accolade of Ligue 1 Player of the Year.
Continuing his goal-scoring exploits, the Argentine forward played a pivotal role in Lyon’s 2012 triumph in the Coupe de France, with his solitary strike securing victory in the final. Despite his departure from Les Gones in 2013, his legacy at the club remained intact, having netted an impressive tally of 59 goals in 119 Ligue 1 appearances.
