Former Missouri Kicker Harrison Mevis Signs with New York Jets

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KCTV) – Harrison Mevis, a former standout kicker for the Missouri Tigers, signed a contract with the New York Jets on Tuesday. Mevis most recently played for the Birmingham Stallions in the United Football League (UFL).
In the 2025 UFL season, Mevis showcased his talent, going 20-for-21 on field goal attempts and proving his reliability from long distances. He was particularly impressive with a 5-for-6 record on kicks over 50 yards, averaging 64.9 yards on kickoffs.
The Jets struggled with their kicking last season, employing five different kickers, none of whom participated in more than eight games. Mevis will compete for a spot with rookie Caden Davis and veteran Anders Carlson, who kicked in five games for the Jets last year.
Mevis, 23, made headlines during his final year at Missouri, where he was named a Second Team All-SEC selection. He is best known for his 61-yard game-winning field goal against No. 15 Kansas State in 2023.
Before joining the Jets, Mevis signed as an undrafted free agent with the Carolina Panthers but was released during training camp in August 2024. He earned the nickname “The Thiccer Kicker” due to his strong build and impressive kicking ability. In 2021, he was a First Team All-American selection after a standout career at Mizzou, where he successfully converted 89 out of 106 field goals and 148 out of 149 extra point attempts.
The Jets will see what Mevis can bring to their squad when they begin training camp in July. The recent trend of UFL kickers finding success in the NFL could work in his favor, as seen with Brandon Aubrey of the Dallas Cowboys and Jake Bates of the Detroit Lions.
