Former NFL Star Kadarius Toney Arrested on Strangulation Allegations

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — Kadarius Toney, a former wide receiver for the NFL, was arrested last week on charges of aggravated assault and obstructing 911 calls after allegedly strangling a woman during a dispute. According to police documents received by TMZ, the incident occurred on January 14 at a residence in Georgia, where Toney allegedly wrapped his hands around the woman’s throat, restricting her ability to breathe.

Authorities state that the confrontation left the victim with visible injuries, including red marks on her neck and petechial hemorrhaging in her eyes. Furthermore, Toney reportedly seized the woman’s phone in an effort to prevent her from contacting emergency services. A warrant for his arrest was issued on January 15, and Toney was taken into custody on February 6.

Court records indicate Toney, 26, is facing two charges: one for aggravated assault, defined as strangulation, and another for obstructing or harassing calls to 911. Toney was granted release after posting bond set at $25,000 for each charge.

Over his NFL career, Toney earned recognition as a two-time Super Bowl champion, playing with the Kansas City Chiefs to win Super Bowl LVII and LVIII. His professional journey began with the New York Giants, who selected him with the 20th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Toney debuted with the Giants but was traded to the Chiefs mid-season in 2022.

After his time with the Chiefs, he joined the Cleveland Browns on the practice squad in 2024, though he was released shortly thereafter. To date, Toney’s statistics include 82 receptions for 760 yards, three receiving touchdowns, and a single rushing touchdown.

Despite not participating in the 2023 postseason, Toney notably contributed to his team’s success in 2022, with significant plays including a touchdown in Super Bowl LVII, which followed a vital punt return against the Philadelphia Eagles.
