Former Player Blames Giants Coach for Struggles Amid 2-7 Record
New York, NY — Former NFL defenseman Chris Canty has expressed serious concerns about the performance of New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll following the team’s disappointing 2-7 record for the third consecutive year.
During an interview on ESPN New York radio with Bart Scott, Canty singled out Daboll, stating that the coach is ultimately accountable for the team’s ongoing struggles, despite having better talent compared to previous seasons. “You’ve hired and fired enough coordinators,” Canty said. “You can’t keep hiring and firing coordinators and pointing the finger of blame at other people. At some point, it’s your ass.”
Scott echoed Canty’s sentiments, questioning the Giants’ options for a new head coach if Daboll were to be dismissed. He emphasized that the decision should involve the team’s rookie quarterback, Jaxson Dart, who needs to weigh in on the type of system that would benefit him as he develops.
Since taking over as head coach, Daboll has seen a drastic shift in the team’s fortunes. His first season in 2022 at the helm included a playoff win and accolades, including Coach of the Year. However, the momentum has faltered, with injuries and inconsistent performances from key players further compounding the team’s woes.
Defensive struggles have also plagued the team, particularly in recent weeks. In a defeat against the San Francisco 49ers, the Giants allowed over 380 total yards, contributing to a concerning trend of high-scoring outputs allowed against their defense.
Linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux expressed his frustration on the performance saying, “That s— is unacceptable.” The defense has faced scrutiny for failing to adapt and improve after consistent failures in overcoming opposing teams’ strategies.
As the Giants gear up to face the Chicago Bears, the team’s ability to bounce back is being closely monitored, with many fans and analysts questioning whether Daboll can turn the ship around and restore the Giants’ previous winning culture.
