Former West Ham United Manager Recalls Controversial Celebration Moment

Former West Ham United manager, David Moyes, recently reminisced about a memorable celebration moment following the 2023 Europa Conference League final.

The incident captured Moyes joining in with a fan chant that referenced Hammers striker, Jarrod Bowen, and his partner, Dani Dyer, who is the daughter of well-known actor and TV presenter, Danny Dyer.

The song, sang to the tune of ‘Freed From Desire’ by Gala, contained a controversial lyric that caught attention.

One of Bowen’s standout accomplishments was his spectacular 90th-minute winning goal against Fiorentina in June 2023 at Prague‘s Fortuna Arena, securing West Ham their first European title since 1965.

Following the victory, Moyes and the players engaged in exuberant celebrations, with one of the songs being a rowdy chorus about Bowen that Moyes enthusiastically joined in.

During an interview on the ‘Football Music & Me’ podcast with Geoff Shreeves, Moyes humorously recalled his involvement in the chant and how the camera captured his spirited singing in Prague.

Despite initially laughing awkwardly, Moyes confessed, ‘Do you know something? The camera caught me singing it in Prague and I had to walk away in the last few lines.’

He added, ‘I had to turn my back and walk away but, by the way, I was definitely singing it. After scoring that goal, I was chanting it in fact.’

Bowen, England striker with 60 goals for West Ham over the last three seasons, is currently on international duty at Euro 2024, where he recently played against Bosnia and Herzegovina, earning his eighth senior cap for the Three Lions.

Dani Dyer, Bowen’s partner, is known for her laid-back response to the playful fan chant dedicated to Bowen.
