France National Team Soccer Match

PARIS, France — The World Cup qualifying phase continues, and in Matchday 7 of Group D, the French national team will look to solidify its lead when it faces Azerbaijan at the Stade de France. France arrives as the group leader with a perfect record of two wins in two matches, totaling six points to sit at the top. In contrast, Azerbaijan is at the bottom of the group with only one point.

France is coming off a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Iceland at the Parc des Princes. However, head coach Didier Deschamps will be without key players Ousmane Dembélé and Rayan Cherki, both sidelined due to injury.

Goalkeeper Mike Maignan from AC Milan remains a crucial player for France, known for his strong presence in goal, quick reflexes, and leadership qualities. William Saliba, a central defender from Arsenal, expressed confidence about France’s chances in the upcoming World Cup. He mentioned the team’s anticipation of facing formidable opponents like Argentina and Spain, asserting, “They don’t scare us.”

France’s expected lineup also includes Malo Gusto, who could make his debut as a starting lateral, exhibiting remarkable speed and defensive skills. Theo Hernandez will be pivotal on the left side, while midfielders Adrien Rabiot and Eduardo Camavinga are expected to control the midfield, with Rabiot bringing experience and Camavinga delivering energy.

Forward Kylian Mbappé, who is the team’s captain and foremost goal threat, will operate freely in the attack. Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea will play a hybrid forward role, providing creativity and pressing from the front. Saliba stated that winning against Azerbaijan is essential: ‘There are no easy games for the national team. We must win to secure the three points.’

As the match approaches, the French squad aims for a win that will bring them closer to qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Saliba emphasized the importance of winning as a way to build confidence for future matches against stronger teams. ‘We want to qualify quickly and aim for the trophy; every match is crucial,’ he added.

The encounter with Azerbaijan will mark a key moment in France’s quest to maintain its prominence in international football ahead of the next World Cup.
