Frontier Donates High-Speed Fiber Internet to Connecticut Nonprofit, Amidst Pending Verizon Acquisition
Frontier Communications has announced a significant donation to support community art and education initiatives in Connecticut. Through its Broadband for Good program, Frontier is providing high-speed fiber internet to the nonprofit RiseUP Group, Inc. in Hartford. This donation aims to enhance the organization’s ability to deliver fast and reliable connectivity, facilitating online learning, digital art projects, and other community engagement activities.
RiseUP Group, Inc. is a multifaceted nonprofit that empowers communities through various programs, including youth development, mentoring, and public art initiatives. The high-speed fiber internet will enable RiseUP to expand its impact, offering more innovative and inclusive art programs across Connecticut.
This donation is part of Frontier’s broader commitment to digital inclusion and community strengthening. It marks the fourth Broadband for Good donation in Connecticut, following previous donations to organizations such as District Arts and Education, the Boys & Girls Club of Ridgefield, and Malta House.
In other news, Frontier Communications is on the verge of a major change with the approval of a $20 billion acquisition by Verizon. Despite some opposition from large investors seeking a higher deal price, 63% of Frontier’s stockholders voted in favor of the buyout. The deal, expected to close in Q1 2026 subject to regulatory approvals, will significantly expand Verizon’s footprint, adding 2.2 million fiber subscribers and increasing its reach to 25 million premises across 31 US states and Washington DC.
The acquisition highlights Verizon’s strategic move to re-enter markets it had previously abandoned and to enhance its offerings with Frontier’s extensive fiber network. This deal is seen as a positive step for both companies, promising more choice, flexibility, and value for millions of customers nationwide).
