Geelong Brisbane Afl Preliminary Final

Geelong is gearing up for a significant AFL Preliminary Final clash against Brisbane at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), with the aim of securing their place in the 2024 Toyota AFL Grand Final. The Cats are making their 13th Preliminary Final appearance in the last 18 years, hoping to achieve their seventh Grand Final in that period.

This will be the third time in five years that Geelong and Brisbane face each other in a Preliminary Final, with Geelong having emerged victorious in the previous two encounters. Brisbane, despite finishing outside the top four, has demonstrated resilience by winning two consecutive Finals, defeating Carlton and overcoming a challenge from GWS last weekend.

In their most recent encounter, Geelong triumphed in their round six meeting earlier in the season, securing a 26-point win in adverse weather at the Gabba. Key players for Geelong included Tyson Stengle, who managed to score two goals, and Tanner Bruhn, who was notable for his defensive efforts with nine tackles.

Historically, Geelong has maintained dominance over Brisbane, winning 24 of the last 29 clashes, and 16 out of 20 under the leadership of coach Chris Scott. Geelong’s formidable record against Brisbane in Victoria further solidifies their strong position, having won 13 consecutive matches played either at the GMHBA Stadium or the MCG.

The lineup for the Cats sees Tom Stewart returning, while Zach Tuohy is omitted for this crucial fixture. The match is set to begin at 5:15 PM AEST on Saturday, September 21, with live coverage available on Channel 7 and radio commentary provided by K Rock.
