ATLANTA, Ga. — Georgia Tech‘s men’s basketball team opens its season on Monday night against Maryland Eastern Shore at McCamish Pavilion. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off and marks the first matchup between the teams since the 1984-85 season.
This is the third meeting in program history between Georgia Tech and UMES, with the Yellow Jackets having won both previous matchups. Head coach Damon Stoudamire leads Georgia Tech into his third season, following a campaign where the team finished eighth in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) with a 10-10 record.
Maryland Eastern Shore, a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), is also looking to start fresh after finishing last season with a 6-25 record. The Hawks were eliminated in the first round of the MEAC Tournament, losing to Norfolk State. Returning players Chris Flippin, a junior forward, and transfer Michael Teal will be essential to UMES this season, with Flippin being named to the Preseason MEAC first team.
Georgia Tech features strong players, including junior forward Baye Ndongo, who averaged a double-double last season with 13.4 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Also returning are Kowacie Reeves Jr. and Jaeden Mustaf, who contributed to the team despite limited play last season due to injuries.
This year, the Yellow Jackets have added ten newcomers, including four transfers. Among these are 6-3 guard Chas Kelley and 7-0 center Peyton Marshall. Tech’s incoming freshman class is rated highly, including four-star guards Akai Fleming and Mouhamed Sylla.
Fans can catch Monday’s season opener streaming live on ACC Network Extra, with radio coverage provided by the Georgia Tech Sports Network and flagship station 680 the Fan.
Season tickets are currently on sale, with prices starting at $290 for the general public. Georgia Tech athletics is also launching a $500 million initiative named Full Steam Ahead to support future facility enhancements and service improvements.
As the season begins, all eyes will be on Georgia Tech as they aim to compete at the highest level in college basketball.
