Georgia Bulldogs running back Trevor Etienne has announced his decision to return for the 2025 season, solidifying the team’s backfield as they aim for another championship run. Etienne, a transfer from Florida, informed head coach Kirby Smart of his decision during a meeting on Tuesday, according to a source close to the Etienne family.

Etienne emerged as a key offensive weapon for the Bulldogs in 2024, leading the team with nine rushing touchdowns and 631 yards on 122 carries in just 10 games. His performance was instrumental in Georgia’s victories, including a standout game against Texas, where he rushed for 87 yards and three touchdowns in a 30-15 win. He also scored the game-winning touchdown in the SEC Championship game against the Longhorns, capping a 94-yard performance.

“Trevor Etienne was the MVP because he came and said, ‘Coach, I want to play this game, I want to win a championship,’” Smart said. “He stood up in front of the team and told them, ‘I don’t know how y’all feel about this game because I haven’t been here. But y’all have played in it a lot, and I haven’t, and I want to play in this game. I want to win this championship, it’s part of the reason that I came here.’”

Etienne’s return provides stability to a Bulldogs offense that faces uncertainty in other areas. With four of five starting offensive linemen departing, his experience in blitz pickup and as a reliable pass-catcher will be crucial. His leadership also extends to mentoring freshman tailback Nate Frazier, who had a breakout season in 2024.

Despite battling injuries, including a rib issue that sidelined him for four games, Etienne’s toughness and dedication earned him praise from Smart and his teammates. His decision to stay for another season allows him to pursue unfinished goals, including matching the achievements of his older brother, NFL running back Travis Etienne, who won a national title at Clemson before turning pro.

Georgia’s backfield depth remains a question mark, with Branson Robinson and Roderick Robinson dealing with injuries and limited availability. Incoming freshman Bo Walker, a highly touted recruit, adds potential but lacks experience. Etienne’s return ensures the Bulldogs have a proven star to anchor their rushing attack as they prepare for another competitive SEC season.
