On July 17, 2024, in a heartwarming display of generosity to mark International Nelson Mandela Day, the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) was honored to receive a donation of five hundred non-perishable food hampers from the Gift of the Givers Foundation, Africa’s most extensive independent humanitarian organization. Additionally, one hundred students were presented with personalized grocery hampers.

Welcoming the Foundation’s representatives was Prof Khehla Ndlovu, the Vice Chancellor and Principal of VUT, alongside Dr. Narissa Ramdhani, the Director of the Department of Resource Mobilisation.

Dr. Ramdhani expressed gratitude for the enduring partnership between VUT and the Gift of the Givers Foundation, highlighting the significant impact of previous donations on various university initiatives, including the Student Food Insecurity Project and healthcare provisions.

The selected beneficiaries were students identified through the Victim Empower Centre database, ensuring that the aid reached those most in need. One of the recipients, Ms. Tsholofelo Motsalane, conveyed deep appreciation for the thoughtful gesture, emphasizing the practical significance of the food parcels in their lives.

Ms. Hlubikazi Ntshobane, the Client Liaison Officer at the Gift of Givers Foundation, expressed profound gratitude to the sponsors who recognize the challenges faced by university students and extend support through these hampers.

This act of kindness not only addresses immediate needs but also embodies the enduring spirit of Nelson Mandela’s legacy, fostering hope and encouragement among the student community at VUT.
