André Pierre Gignac Soccer Match

MONTERREY, Mexico — André-Pierre Gignac and Tigres UANL are set to face Necaxa this Friday in the thirteenth round of the Apertura 2025 tournament. The match is significant for both Gignac and Necaxa, as both are seeking to overcome recent struggles.

Gignac, 39, is facing a rare goal drought that has raised questions about his performance. Since joining Tigres in 2015, Gignac has been a prolific scorer, but injuries have affected his game this season. He recently recovered from a partial tendon rupture in January and has only scored once in the Apertura so far.

“I don’t have to prove anything to anyone, just to myself,” Gignac stated. He emphasized his focus on being ready for the playoffs. Despite statistical challenges, he remains Tigres’ all-time leading scorer with 217 goals.

In contrast, Anthony Martial, a 29-year-old forward for Monterrey, is similarly struggling to find his footing in the league. Since his arrival, he has yet to score in his first four matches, leading to rising concerns among fans. His coach, Domènec Torrent, has called for patience regarding Martial’s adaptation.

This weekend, Monterrey (3rd) will host Pumas (10th) in another critical matchup. Meanwhile, Necaxa (17th) continues to fight for points as they go head-to-head with Tigres, who currently sit in 5th place.

As both Gignac and Martial adjust to their roles this season, all eyes will be on these high-profile forwards during the upcoming matches.
