Google Apple Partnership Ai Technology

WASHINGTON, April 30 (Reuters) – Google CEO Sundar Pichai testified on Wednesday that the tech giant aims to finalize a deal with Apple by mid-2025 to integrate its Gemini AI technology into new iPhones. This development was revealed during an ongoing antitrust trial in Washington.

During his testimony, Pichai suggested that Google’s Gemini could operate alongside or even replace OpenAI’s technology in Apple devices, enhancing the AI capabilities available to iPhone users. Apple previously announced plans to incorporate OpenAI’s ChatGPT into its lineup, including iPads and Macs, slated for release in 2024.

“Integrating Gemini into Apple’s ecosystem would allow Siri to handle more complex inquiries,” Pichai stated. He confirmed that while discussions took place last year with Apple CEO Tim Cook, a definitive agreement has not yet been reached.

Gemini is Google’s family of advanced AI models developed by its DeepMind team, which includes versions optimized for mobile and high-performance tasks. These models can summarize information, generate code, and engage in complex language processing.

In comparison to Apple’s existing AI solutions, Gemini offers broader reasoning abilities. This integration could lead to smarter interactions for iPhone users, allowing for personalized suggestions based on behaviors and activities.

However, experts caution that Apple is known for its strict privacy standards. Past partnerships have shown that Apple tends to keep user data secure, which could limit how deeply Google’s technology is embedded within Apple products.

Pichai’s comments also indicated that a finalized deal could coincide with Apple’s upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference, beginning June 9, 2025. If successful, this partnership could significantly accelerate Apple’s AI adoption and enhance user experiences across its devices.

As the rivalry in the tech industry heats up, both companies face increasing scrutiny from regulators regarding their collaborative efforts and impact on competition.
