NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro joined thousands of Philadelphia Eagles fans in New Orleans to cheer on his home team at Super Bowl LIX. The highly anticipated matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs kicked off Sunday evening, with the Eagles seeking redemption and the Chiefs aiming for a historic three-peat.

Shapiro, an outspoken Eagles supporter, expressed optimism about the team’s chances. ‘I’m getting texts from other governors – not the Kansas or Missouri governor – but other governors, other people around the country saying, ‘I usually hate the Eagles, but I’m rooting for you,” he shared on social media. The governor predicted a 31-27 Eagles victory, calling it ‘a bit of a heart pick, but also a head pick because I think we’re a better team.’

The governor also engaged in a friendly wager with Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe. If the Eagles win, Kehoe will send Shapiro Missouri-grown beef, BBQ sauce, and Cherry Mash. Should the Chiefs prevail, Shapiro will reciprocate with Philly favorites, including soft pretzels and cheesesteaks.

Bourbon Street was electric with Eagles fans donning midnight green, fostering a lively atmosphere ahead of the game. ‘The energy here is awesome,’ said Bethany Miller, WGAL Sports Director, reporting live from New Orleans. Despite the early morning hour, fans were already flooding the streets, eager to show their support.

The Eagles entered the game hungry for their second Super Bowl title, while the Chiefs sought to cement their legacy as one of the NFL‘s greatest dynasties. Shapiro emphasized the importance of the Eagles’ offensive strategy, noting, ‘Our ability to control the offensive line, to give Jalen a little more time, to give Saquon the opportunity to get going, especially if we can score early and play from ahead, not behind,’ as critical to securing a win.

Fans back in Philadelphia and across the country tuned in, hopeful that the Eagles would bring home another championship. As the game approached, the city of New Orleans became a hub of excitement, unity, and anticipation for football fans nationwide.
