Halifax Regional Police Announcement

The case of missing Halifax teenager Devon Sinclair Marsman has taken a tragic turn as authorities now investigate it as a homicide. Police revealed they have found human remains and have charged two men concerning his death.

Devon Marsman was just 16 years old when he was last seen in the Spryfield area of Halifax in February 2022. During a press conference, Halifax Regional Police announced that Treyton Alexander Marsman, aged 26, and another individual who was a minor at the time of the crime, have been arrested. Treyton Marsman faces charges of second-degree murder, indignity to human remains, and obstruction of justice. The 20-year-old man, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged as an accessory after the fact to murder and obstruction of justice.

Police Chief Don MacLean confirmed a “familial relationship” between Devon and one of the accused but did not disclose further specifics. Chief MacLean emphasized the complexity and sensitivity of the case, stating that revealing too much information could endanger the judicial process. “When a community member goes missing, particularly if it involves a child, it is profoundly distressing,” he said, while reassuring the public that officers have worked relentlessly on the investigation.

The remains, believed to belong to Devon, are now with the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service for proper identification. Acting Deputy Chief Andrew Matthews noted these remains were found during the ongoing investigation but avoided detailing the timeline to maintain its integrity.

Meanwhile, Theresa Gray, Devon’s mother, has persistently sought answers since his disappearance, often appealing to the public for assistance. Her efforts included widespread flyer campaigns across Nova Scotia and offering a financial reward for information about her son’s whereabouts.

Halifax Regional Police suggest that more arrests may follow and urge anyone with pertinent information to step forward. Despite the arrests marking a breakthrough, they acknowledge the irreplaceable loss of a loved one experienced by the community.

Authorities encourage those with knowledge of the incident to contact police at 902-490-5020.
