Hanover Woman Lottery Winner

HANOVER, Maryland — A local woman won $100,000 from a scratch-off ticket after a spontaneous decision to play the lottery struck her recently.

The Hanover resident, who prefers to remain unnamed, purchased a $50 ticket for the $5,000,000 Fortune game at Crofton Liquors on May 27, 2025. “I’m very grateful!” she said after claiming her prize at the Maryland Lottery headquarters.

This casual player often buys tickets only when she feels inspired. Her intuitive approach had previously led to two $5,000 wins, totaling $10,000 from multiple tickets purchased in a row. After setting aside those winnings, she kept her lottery participation at a minimum until recently.

While heading home from work, she suddenly felt the urge to buy a ticket. Despite contemplating another game, she chose the $5,000,000 Fortune game instead.

After dinner with her fiancé, she excitedly declared, “We’re about to win $5 million!” as they scratched the tickets together. One ticket turned out to be a $100,000 winner, though she remained optimistic about her initial prediction of winning the top prize.

The couple, who are planning a small wedding for later this year, have not decided how to spend the winnings just yet. The prize will also help with unforeseen expenses as she is the primary caregiver for her mother.

A celebratory seafood dinner in Annapolis is on their short-term agenda, and she’s eager to try her luck at the lottery again, saying, “Oh, absolutely! When I feel it. I have to have a feeling.” The $5,000,000 Fortune game still has three top-tier $5 million prizes unclaimed, as well as numerous other prizes available.

The Maryland Lottery encourages responsible play and reminds players to sign their tickets and provide valid identification for prize claims.
