Haryana Assembly Elections

The Haryana Assembly elections are witnessing an intense political battle as significant political leaders, including Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and Vinesh Phogat from the Congress, alongside JJP’s Dushyant Chautala, are among the prominent candidates. The elections, held on October 5, 2024, will determine the political fate of these leaders and over 1,027 other candidates in the fray across the state.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is ambitious to secure a third consecutive win in the state, while the Congress aims to reclaim its influence after a decade. The electoral results are scheduled to be declared on October 8, 2024.

According to Haryana’s Chief Electoral Officer Pankaj Agarwal, approximately 2.03 crore voters, including 8,821 individuals aged 100 years or older, are eligible to participate in the electoral process. Voting is conducted from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a total of 1,031 candidates contesting in all 90 assembly constituencies. Notably, 101 women are among those striving for legislative seats, and 464 candidates are participating as independents.

The primary political parties in contention are the BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Indian National Lok Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party (INLD-BSP) alliance, and the JJP-Azad Samaj Party coalition. The fervent campaign leading up to the elections concluded on the evening of October 3, 2024.

In the preceding assembly elections held in 2019, the BJP secured 40 seats, while the Congress obtained 31 seats, and the JJP managed to win 10 seats. The unfolding elections are critical in assessing shifts in political power and public sentiment in Haryana.
