Henry Bernet to Face Jakub Mensik in Swiss Indoors Debut
BASSEL, Switzerland (AP) — Eighteen-year-old Henry Bernet from Basel will compete in his first ATP Tour match at the Swiss Indoors against world number 19 Jakub Mensik. The match is set for October 20 at St. Jakobshalle.
Bernet received a wildcard entry into the tournament. He expressed excitement about facing Mensik, the Czech Republic’s seventh seed. Mensik is coming off a strong performance, having won the Masters 1000 tournament in Miami earlier this year, defeating both Taylor Fritz and Novak Djokovic.
The match is expected to be challenging for Bernet, who is currently ranked 479th in the ATP standings. Despite the pressure, he is seen as a rising star after winning the junior title at the Australian Open.
In another notable matchup, Swiss tennis legend Stan Wawrinka will face Miomir Kecmanovic, currently ranked 49th. Wawrinka, who has won three Grand Slam titles, is hoping to make a strong impression as he may be nearing the end of his career.
The 2025 Swiss Indoors will feature a total of 32 players competing for a prize pool of €2,523,045. Other top players include Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, and Casper Ruud, all aiming for critical ranking points towards ATP Finals qualification. The tournament runs from October 20 to 26.
With several top Swiss players missing due to injuries, hopes are pinned on Bernet and Wawrinka to carry the nation’s hopes in this year’s event. Meanwhile, the competitive field includes eight players from the ATP top 20, promising an exciting week of tennis.
