Hokies Understand Importance of Community, Victory in Emotional Game

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech Hokies celebrated a decisive 38-6 win over Wofford on Saturday at Lane Stadium. Following the game, Interim Head Coach expressed pride in his team’s performance amidst an emotional week.
“It was an emotional week,” he said. “I’m very proud of our players and our coaching staff with all the things that have gone on during the week. Guys have shown up and practiced extremely hard.”
The Hokies focused on playing a complete game, executing strong defense, and showing offensive balance. The coach praised the defensive line for its aggressive play and noted the linebackers’ solid tackles.
“Our secondary was swarming, so I was very pleased,” he added. “Offensively, we did a nice job in the run game, and we were able to take our shots when we could.”
Coach highlighted the importance of the victory, stating, “This is just one week. We have to continue building and growing, but it was good to have that happen for them.”
The coach also thanked the fans for their unwavering support. “They were passionate like always. That means so much to the guys in that locker room and to our university,” he said.
Meanwhile, Virginia Tech honored military service members during the game, continuing its longstanding commitment to recognizing those in the armed forces. Fans donned white to support the White Effect, raising awareness for injured service members.
The day included tributes such as a U.S. Air Force flyover featuring two helicopters and a special pregame ceremony for nearly 100 Army ROTC Cadets taking their contracting oath.
“We got to continue to keep growing, building, and getting better as a football team,” Coach concluded, emphasizing the need for ongoing improvement.
