Embark on a culinary journey through the vibrant streets and Michelin-starred restaurants of Hong Kong, a city known for its diverse and delicious food scene. Recently, a group of travelers, including journalists and food enthusiasts, set out to explore the gastronomic delights of Hong Kong as part of a celebration marking 75 years of direct flights from Sydney to Hong Kong.

Upon arrival in Hong Kong, the group checked into the iconic Mandarin Oriental, the first of its kind in the world, and home to acclaimed dining venues such as The Aubrey and the Michelin-starred Man Wah, both offering breathtaking views of Victoria Harbour.

The culinary adventure kicked off at The Aubrey, a Japanese izakaya ranked 17th on Asia’s 50 Best Bars list, where guests savored traditional Japanese delights and bespoke cocktails while admiring the panoramic waterfront views.

Exploring beyond the city’s core, the group ventured to Sai Kung, aptly known as the ‘back garden of Hong Kong,’ a charming district brimming with hiking trails, fishing villages, and local eateries. Stops included Sai Kung Café & Bakery for the iconic pineapple buns and Chuen Kee Seafood Restaurant for a seafood feast.

Braving the bustling streets of Yau Tsim Mong, the group dove into local food culture at Liu Ma Kee and Mrs Fong Dessert, savoring preserved bean curd products and traditional Chinese sweets, respectively. A visit to the unassuming 163 Shanghai Street in Yau Ma Tei offered a taste of freshly made rice noodle rolls, a must-try for noodle aficionados.

The culinary odyssey continued with a stop at the acclaimed Arcane, helmed by Australian chef Shane Osborn, known for his innovative menus featuring premium Australian ingredients served in a chic Hong Kong setting.

Capping off the gastronomic tour was a lavish dining experience at the Michelin-starred Man Wah, where guests indulged in Cantonese fine dining against the backdrop of Victoria Harbour, savoring a delectable spread of classic and contemporary dishes.

As the group bid farewell to Hong Kong, reminiscing on the culinary delights sampled and experiences shared, they carried with them a newfound appreciation for the city’s rich and diverse food heritage.
