Houston Cougars Visit Arizona State Sun Devils in Primetime Clash
TEMPE, Ariz. – The University of Houston Cougars will face the No. 24 Arizona State Sun Devils at Mountain America Stadium on Saturday, October 25, at 7 p.m. CT. This matchup features two strong teams, both with a 3-1 record in the Big 12, and promises to be a thrilling contest.
Houston, led by head coach Willie Fritz, enters the game with a 6-1 overall record. Fritz has praised his quarterbacks, Conner Weigman and Zeon Chriss, for their growth under offensive coordinator Slade Nagle. Weigman, who has transitioned through multiple offensive systems, is finding comfort in Nagle’s scheme. “He’s a smart guy and understands things,” Fritz said. “Him and coach Nagle do a good job of communicating. I was impressed.”
Meanwhile, the Sun Devils aim to leverage their playoff experience from last season, where they faced the Texas Longhorns. Head coach Kenny Dillingham credited his team for excellent recruiting and emphasized the challenge Houston presents. “Coach Dillingham has done a phenomenal job,” Fritz noted, highlighting ASU’s offensive talent.
The Sun Devils, currently addressing several injuries, notably to junior receiver Jordyn Tyson, who leads the team in receiving yards, remain determined to showcase their depth. “Nobody cares about our injuries,” Dillingham said. “We’ve got to work to get healthy, and we’ve got to go out there and fight.”
Houston’s defense remains a formidable force, having recorded 17 sacks over the season. Dillingham respects the challenge posed by the Cougars, stating, “They just win games by playing good defense.”
As both teams gear up for this critical game, the stakes are high. The winner will gain a significant advantage in their quest for the Big 12 title while the loser may have to fight for their postseason hopes.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT, and fans can catch the action on ESPN2, with radio coverage available on KPRC 950 AM.
