Iga Swiatek Vs Barbora Krejcikova Wta Finals 2024

Iga Swiatek, the reigning French Open champion, is set to return to the tennis court after a few weeks of rest, marking her first match since her quarterfinal exit at the US Open in September. She will face Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova in the group stage of the 2024 WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Swiatek, who has been inactive during the Asian swing of the WTA Tour to recover from a busy season, expressed confidence about her readiness despite the long break. “I don’t feel rusty. I played some points here with Aryna and Qinwen. Also, I’ve been practicing that way. I don’t feel like I missed a lot,” she stated.

Krejcikova, who qualified for the WTA Finals as a Grand Slam champion despite finishing outside the top eight in the WTA rankings, has had a challenging run during the Asian leg of the tour. She suffered a back injury and was only cleared to return to training a few days before the tournament in Riyadh.

The match between Swiatek and Krejcikova is highly anticipated, with both players having a 2-2 head-to-head record. Swiatek, however, has an impressive 81.6 percent win rate in indoor matches, which could give her an edge in this encounter. Krejcikova, on the other hand, will be playing her first indoor match of the year.

Swiatek’s recent coaching change, with the appointment of Wim Fissette following her split from Tomasz Wiktorowski, adds another layer of interest to her performance. She aims to defend her WTA Finals title and potentially regain the No. 1 ranking from Aryna Sabalenka.
