Illawarra Hawks Add QJ Peterson for Upcoming Match
WOLLONGONG, Australia — The Illawarra Hawks have bolstered their lineup as they prepare for their next game, welcoming back Davo Hickey and introducing new import QJ Peterson.
Peterson, a 6’0″ guard, comes to the Hawks from the Dominican Republic, having spent much of his career playing in China, where he averaged over 20 points per game. He is determined to help the Hawks recover after a recent victory against Perth.
“My agent mentioned that Justin Tatum loves your game and thinks I could help these guys get back on track, and hopefully bring another championship here,” Peterson said. The 31-year-old is familiar with high-level basketball and believes he can adjust quickly to the National Basketball League (NBL).
He praised the competitive nature of Australian basketball, comparing it to leagues in Turkey and Spain. “Australia has always been on my radar, especially the national team. I see how hard they compete, and I know it’s a great league,” Peterson remarked.
Having watched games closely on ESPN Plus and Disney, Peterson noted the physicality of the play and how guards succeed in the league.
The Hawks currently sit with just two wins out of six games in NBL26. Their next challenge will be against the New Zealand Breakers, where they hope to leverage their new additions and build on their recent momentum.
