In an exciting encounter at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, the first ODI between India and Sri Lanka ended in a thrilling tie. India, chasing a target of 231 runs, managed to equal Sri Lanka’s score but unfortunately lost all their wickets, resulting in a deadlock without any Super Over to break the tie.

Rohit Sharma led the charge for India, scoring 58 runs off 47 balls. Alongside him, Axar Patel contributed a valuable 33 runs, and KL Rahul added 31 runs to the scoreboard. However, the Indian batting lineup struggled against Sri Lankan bowlers, with most players finding it hard to settle in.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka’s bowling attack shone brightly, with Wanindu Hasaranga and Charith Asalanka both claiming three wickets each. Dunith Wellalage also had a good outing, taking two wickets, while Asitha Fernando and Akila Dananjaya chipped in with one wicket each.

Earlier in the match, the Sri Lankan team, captained by Charith Asalanka, opted to bat first after winning the toss. They managed to post a total of 230 runs, with Dunith Wellalage anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 67 runs off 65 balls and Pathum Nissanka adding 56 runs. The rest of the batting lineup faltered, failing to reach even 25 runs.

In response, India’s bowling attack was led by Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel, who both took two wickets. Mohammed Siraj, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, and Washington Sundar each contributed with one wicket as well. Despite a strong start with Rohit and Shubman Gill at the crease, India faced a rocky middle phase that ultimately led to their downfall.

The second ODI of the series will take place on Sunday, again at the same venue, where both teams will look to claim victory in the ongoing series.
