Indiana Hoosiers Triumph Over Marquette in Basketball Showdown
CHICAGO — Indiana men’s basketball faced its first major opponent of the season Sunday, claiming a decisive 100-77 victory over Marquette at the United Center.
Leading the way for Indiana (2-0) was senior forward Tucker DeVries, who scored 27 points, including 24 in a stellar first half. His performance helped the Hoosiers build a significant lead, quickly making an impact with a three-pointer just 24 seconds into the game.
Despite early foul troubles for teammates, including senior forward Reed Bailey and sixth-year senior guard Tayton Conerway, DeVries maintained composure and efficiency. Marquette (2-1) managed to cut the lead to 10 points in the second half, but Indiana responded effectively, with DeVries and fellow senior Lamar Wilkerson scoring crucial points to keep control of the game.
Wilkerson added 23 points in the win, showcasing strong shooting with five three-pointers. The Hoosiers recorded a remarkable 27 assists while committing just eight turnovers, highlighting their offensive strategy and ball movement.
Indiana’s shooting was impressive, converting 14 of 28 three-point attempts and 20 of 24 from the free-throw line. The team demonstrated significant depth with contributions from three reserves: freshman Trent Sisley scored 15 points, senior Sam Alexis added 13, and junior Jasai Miles had four in limited minutes.
On the other side, Marquette’s leading scorer, Chase Ross, netted 19 points but struggled shooting, hitting just 4 of 13. The Golden Eagles, who prided themselves on defensive prowess, were unable to match Indiana’s offensive output.
After this victory, Indiana will host the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Wednesday at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, looking to build on this dominating performance against a formidable opponent.
