Indiana and Iowa Clash in Final Pool Game of Big Ten Tournament

OMAHA, Neb. – The Indiana University baseball team will face Iowa in a must-see clash during the Big Ten Tournament at Charles Schwab Field on Thursday, May 22. The game is set for 10:00 p.m. ET/9:00 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on Big Ten Network.
Despite a 5-2 loss to Rutgers earlier this week, Indiana, with a record of 31-24, is eager to finish strong against the Hawkeyes. Indiana’s hopes of advancing out of pool play ended with that defeat, but they are determined to snap a four-game losing streak against Iowa.
IU’s standout freshman first baseman, who earned the title of Big Ten Freshman of the Year, has been impressive this season. He leads all conference freshmen with a batting average of .340 and 14 home runs. In his first conference tournament game, he managed multiple hits, bringing his season total to 73.
The Hoosiers are supported by strong pitching from veterans and the possibility of other key arms stepping up, including Second Team All-Big Ten pitcher Gilley, who is aiming for his 10th win of the season. If successful, he will become the first IU pitcher with 10 wins in a season since 2016.
Indiana has made the Big Ten Tournament 12 consecutive years, holding the longest active streak in the conference. With one game to go, they hope to extend their success at the tournament, having won at least one game in each of the previous three tournaments.
In their history, IU and Iowa have had a competitive rivalry. This upcoming game will mark their 171st meeting, with Iowa coach Rick Heller currently holding a 10-7 edge over Indiana’s head coach.
Iowa enters the game after a victory against Rutgers and aims to bounce back from a drop in performance towards the end of the regular season. The Hawkeyes’ pitching staff, including First Team All-Big Ten selections, has proved robust, and their offense is known for high doubles output, making them a tough opponent.
As the weather prompted schedule changes, the game has been moved to an evening start. Both teams are eager to bring their best to the field, with Indiana ready to claim a victory to close their tournament experience on a positive note.
“Finishing strong is key. We want to set the tone moving into the next season,” said a member of the Hoosiers.”
