Indiana University Set to Face Incarnate Word in Basketball Showdown
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University will continue its 126th season of men’s basketball with a non-conference game against Incarnate Word on Sunday, Nov. 16, at 5:30 p.m. ET in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The match will be broadcast live on BTN, featuring commentators Noah Reed and Brian Butch.
Incarnate Word comes into the game with a 2-1 record under third-year head coach Shane Heirman. The team is spearheaded by fifth-year guard Davion Bailey, who led the Southland Conference in scoring last season and has averaged 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game this season.
Other key players for the Cardinals include fifth-year senior guard Tahj Staveskie, who averages 18.7 points and 7.0 rebounds, redshirt sophomore guard Harrison Reede with 17.0 points and 17 three-pointers made this season, and junior forward Jordan Pyke, contributing 12.3 points and 4.7 rebounds.
This season, Incarnate Word has shown offensive prowess, averaging 92.3 points and hitting 39.8% of their three-point attempts across three games. They rank high in various statistical categories and look to challenge Indiana’s strong defense.
Indiana enters the game with a perfect 3-0 record, recently showcasing their skills with a decisive 101-70 victory over Milwaukee on Nov. 12. Leading the Hoosiers was a fifth-year senior guard who scored 24 points, marking a stellar performance in the contest.
Indiana’s offense has been prolific, having scored more than 90 points in each of their first three games, something they haven’t achieved since the 2007-08 season. The team boasts an average of 99.7 points per game and has shot exceptionally well from the field, ranking 10th in the nation for shooting percentage.
The matchup between Indiana and Incarnate Word marks the first meeting in history between the two teams. Historically, Indiana has performed well against Southland Conference teams, holding an undefeated 9-0 record.
